To: Our Clients
From: Louis T. Barry
Date: January 1, 2020
Ref: New Owner and President of CBE
It is my pleasure to announce that effective January 1, 2020, John Yu became the new owner and president of Chavond-Barry Engineering Corp. I will remain on staff for the next 1 to 2 years as Chief Engineer and a technical consultant. I look forward to introducing you to John in the near future.
John is an experienced chemical engineer with bachelor's and master’s degree from the University of Virginia. He has nearly 20 years of engineering experience working with high temperature furnaces specializing in fluidized beds. John joins CBE from Hankin Environmental Systems where, for the last six years, he led their project engineering department. Before that, he worked at Infilco Degremont (now Suez North America) as lead project engineer on some of their most successful projects. He has extensive experience in all phases of project engineering, management, start-up and commissioning.
I am confident John and the CBE team will continue to provide the quality engineering and service you have come to expect. John’s passion for the business and our customers was evident when he recently told me, “I am honored to be given the opportunity to lead this great organization and continue the tradition of excellence that you and CBE established over the last 37 years. I will endeavor to apply my experiences and lead the CBE team in order to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
In order to minimize any changes for you, John is acquiring all aspects of CBE. This means there will be no immediate changes to our address, phone number, name, etc. All projects and proposals will continue without interruption.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact John, (609) 466-4900 or JohnYu@Chavond-Barry.com, or me (609) 466-4900 or LTBarry@Chavond-Barry.com . I look forward to working with you and with John to ensure future decades of success and quality engineering.
Kind regards, Lou

NBCUA recently completed incinerator emission upgrades and standby incinerator repairs at its Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) located in Waldwick, NJ. The project is being funded with $7.9 million in loans from the NJEIFP, a joint low-rate funding program of the DEP and the NJEIT. Total savings to ratepayers for this project is estimated to be $2 million over 20 years, or 25% of the project cost. According to Howard Hurwitz, Executive Director of the NBCUA, “The Authority is pleased to work with the DEP and the NJEIT to finance the $7.96 million, 2-year project. The savings from the Financing Program, plus the 50 full-time construction jobs that resulted from the build and the environmental and efficiency measures gained from the project will benefit our rate payers and this community for decades to come.” To comply with new federal air emissions regulations, the NBCUA invested in improvements to the incineration process at the facility. The proposed improvements will maintain the proper management and disposal of sludge and ensure compliance with the facility’s NJPDES permit. The upgrades to the incinerator include the installation of a new Mercury Absorber system, a caustic injection and recycling system, and an exterior over-road platform. The repairs to the standby incinerator include the replacement of ductwork connecting the standby incinerator to the primary heat exchangers and the installation of all necessary instrumentation and controls. The proposed improvements allow the incinerators to meet federal emissions requirements, and enhance the efficiency, reliability, and resiliency of the WWTP. The project was designed by Chavond-Barry Engineering Group and T&M Associates. The Contractor was Tomar Construction, and The Mercury Absorber System was designed and manufactured by APC Technologies, Inc.
