Fat, Oil, and Grease (FOG)
The high cost of fuel oil has brought into focus the fact that waste grease is available and has been successfully used to reduce or totally eliminate the need for auxiliary fuel to fire fluid bed sludge incinerators.
CBE specializes in the design of FOG processing systems, which includes the placement and sizing of the various storage tanks, transfer pumps, grease concentrator, and odor scrubbing systems. CBE will also interface with the pollution control authority to acquire the necessary incinerator operating permit modifications and permits to construct. Fat, Oil & Grease (FOG) Solutions Restaurants generally pay a contractor to regularly clean their FOG traps. With limited outlets available for the disposal of FOG, a tipping fee is often paid during its final disposal. A wastewater treatment plant with an onsite sludge incinerator can facilitate both the disposal and a beneficial end-use of FOG in one location. There seems to be no limit to the amount of FOG that can be substituted for fuel oil in the incinerators. Taking into consideration the cost of installing a FOG system, the simple payback can be as little as 2.5 years with a tipping fee, and 6 years without a tipping fee. |
What is FOG? It is the floatable fat, oil and grease oils from local restaurant traps, consisting of some food debris, mostly cooking oils and fats, plus 96% water. There are no petroleum products nor other hazardous materials in FOG.
